National BEACH Lifeguard Qualification The aim of this course is to attain a comprehensive range of lifeguarding skills, required to become a Beach Lifeguard. The NBLQ award covers a number of modules combining theory and practical. Fitness, Practical Lifeguarding Skills and knowledge, rescue, life support and first aid are the main topics covered. All Beach Lifeguard courses are run in conjunction with Surf LifeSavers and are strategic partners with the RNLI. Candidates must be: - At a minimum of 16 years on the date of examination - Complete a timed swim of 400 metres over a measured course, in a pool not less than 25 metres in length, using a front stroke - A time of 7:30 minutes is accepted as the maximum time permitted for the swim - Complete a timed run of 200 metres over a measured course, on a beach. A time of 40 seconds is accepted as the maximum time permitted for the run. The First Beach Lifeguard course we are offering is classed as a FULL Season Qualification. This will allow qualified candidates to start working for/from the Full Summer Season in 2010. The Second Beach Lifeguard course is classed as a PEAK season qualification and will allow a qualified candidate to work the main summer holidays in 2010 and Full seasons thereafter. Candidates may wear their own wetsuits as long as they are suitable for the course.
